If you’re having a Christmas celebration for seniors, you’ll want to have some games for everyone to play. Here’s a list of a variety of group Christmas games:
Christmas Candy Jar
Fill a small jar with Christmas colored candies and ask people to guess how many are inside. Have them write their guesses on slips of paper, and whoever is the closest wins the jar!
Pin the Nose on Rudolph
Create or print out a reindeer and make a red nose to pin on the reindeer. Use red circles of paper with tape on the back or try red pom poms. Typically, players are blindfolded, but if you feel that seniors would find it too difficult with a blindfold, you can play without and it could be just as fun.
Check out this Pin the Nose on the Reindeer game that is reusable every year, if you don’t want to make your own.
Christmas Bingo
You can find Christmas-themed bingo cards to print out. If your seniors already play bingo, this could be a great option for adding a Christmas theme to something they are already familiar with, and you won’t have to explain the rules of the game!
Name the Carol
There are different ways of playing games based around Christmas Carols. Some involve drawing in a pictionary-style game, others are based on forming teams and getting points for correct answers. Choose whichever will work best for your group, or create your own game inspired by those listed here.
What’s in the Stocking
You can create another fun Christmas-themed guessing game. If you want to encourage more group activity, create teams and have multiple stockings filled with the same items that you can provide to each team. Whichever team guesses the most items correctly wins.
Christmas Who Am I
A Christmas spin on the guessing game often known as Headbands, players get a card with a Christmas-themed clue on it. They ask other players questions to figure out what or who they are. Players hold their cards up to their foreheads, seniors with any difficulty doing so can hold the cards lower in front of themselves. You may also write clues on sticky notes and stick them on players’ foreheads, as that is how the game is sometimes played.
Christmas Alphabet List
For this game, have members of a team try to come up with Christmas themed words for every letter of the alphabet. This is an easy game to set up since all you need is a sheet of paper with the alphabet on it and a writing utensil for each team.
Guess the Christmas Smell
Take several containers with lids and certain Christmas-themed scented items (ie: candles, pine cone, cinnamon, etc). Make multiple jars of each scent if you want multiple teams to play. The smells of Christmas may trigger memories or just get everyone in the holiday spirit!
Paper Plate Christmas Drawing
I originally saw this Paper Plate Christmas Drawing game here and thought it looked great the way they were doing the drawing on a paper plate that was atop their head. But this could be difficult for many seniors that can’t raise their arms that high or hold them up long enough to draw. So an alternative could easily be doing this blindfolded or just with eyes closed. You could still use the same point system for getting the items drawn in proper place like is suggested. Or come up with your own point system or prizes!
Christmas Card Matching
For this game, you need several Christmas cards that you then cut in half (remember which halves go together). Teams then work together to figure out which message goes with which cover. Whichever team gets the most right wins!
Any combination of these games is sure to fill seniors’ Christmas celebrations with fun and teamwork!
