St. Patrick’s Day & Easter Themes for March and April Activities

By NHAR Leave a Comment

Activities for March, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Spring For Nursing Home Seniors!

The month of March offers some great theme ideas and activities for Activity Directors and Caregivers of Nursing Homes and assisted living facilities.

Some themes are Gardening, Spring, St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland, Palm Sunday and Passover.

March can be a month of St. Patrick’s Day, the leprechaun, shamrocks, green beer and all things Irish. If you are an activity director in a nursing home and are planning activities around the Irish theme for this month, here are some activity suggestions to keep in mind.

Living Baskets
Make living Easter Baskets! Simply line an Easter basket with plastic wrap and fill it with potting mix or perlite with a layer of potting mix on top. Sprinkle the potting mix with wheatgrass seeds and spritz with water. Keep the top of the soil slightly moist. When a good batch of grass has grown up you can decorate it with plastic eggs, or small figurines, or anything you like. Residents have a lot of fun with these and you can make a couple batches of the grass.

Have an Easter Egg Hunt

Invite a local daycare to come in and have the residents and the children hunt for the Easter eggs together! Don’t forget to take pictures and get them printed for the residents to be looking at and talking about that day for a while to come!

Easter Hat Parade

This is a great activity as a craft to begin designing and making the hats! Residents can do the judging on a day you designate for the parade, maybe Good Friday. Again, don’t forget to take pictures!
