New Years Party Ideas, Games and Crafts For Seniors in Nursing Homes!

New Year’s Resolution Game

Have everyone write down 2 or 3 New Year’s Resolutions, hopes, or wishes and an activity coordinator or volunteer can draw them out one at a time, read it aloud, and the crowd has to guess whose it is. You could make it more challenging too by having the seniors write down who they think it belongs to. The person with the most correct answers can win a prize, or wear a special crown for the party.

New Year’s Sing Alongs

Have a big group New Year’s sing-along with a DVD of entertaining singers and musicians that get everyone joining in and singing to some favourites. It isn’t too late to still sing some favourite Christmas tunes, and you can include some Gospel and old classics as well.

Time Capsule

Build a time capsule with a contribution from every resident and staff member. Have them tell everyone a little bit about the item, why they feel it is significant for a time capsule. You could also do themed capsules. A capsule of Crafts or of pictures, or any other great ideas you can come up with!

How to Make Party Hats : How to Make a Paper New Years Hat

Here’s a great craft you can do with seniors in preparation for a New Year’s Party – Party Hats! They will love decorating their own.

How to make a New Year’s wreath using pretzels and ribbon.

This may be best for seniors with more independent ability. For seniors requiring a great deal of help, this may be a little too involved. For those with dementia, and lacking patience this will be frustrating and difficult.
