Christmas PJ Party
Have all the residents that are able, come into the main hall area in their PJ’s. Staff too! Have someone hand out gifts tot he residents (fun if this is Santa!) and then go to the rooms where residents are that were unable to leave their rooms, and have the gifts handed out to them too.
If you are able to have the seniors picture taken with Santa when he is handing out the gifts, this can be later framed and given to them, or put up on a feature wall for everyone to see.
Then have singing of Christmas Carols with live music or sing alongs on DVD, add a few games of trivia or Christmas Bingo too. With some wonderful snacks this could be a great party for everyone.
Instead of gifts under the tree that Santa hands out, you could have stockings for each resident filled with the items to give them. Some could be wrapped to add to the fun and mystery of the gifts, but not all would have to be wrapped.
Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Whip out the spray-on snow, start cutting paper snowflakes and build those polystyrene snowmen and have a winter wonderland themed party.
Use snow-globes, ice-skates, mittens, stockings and fake snow as theme props and decorations. If you know someone that could make ice sculptures for your party – even better! Fill glass bowls and vases with white foods such as marshmallows, popcorn, mints and white chocolate to keep things cool.
Party in Santa’s Workshop
Take a trip to every child’s fantasy with a fun themed party in Santa’s workshop.
Scatter toys and fake tools around the party room to make it look like a workshop, wrap empty cardboard boxes up as beautiful presents and hang brightly coloured decorations from the ceiling. Old benches and work horses can be used as tables and chairs.
Nativity Scene Party Theme
For something more traditional invite your guests to step into the nativity scene. Be sure to include baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the three wise men, the inn keeper and the animals.
Christmas Decorations:
Building an Ice Kingdom
If Christmas party funds are limited, employ a bit of imagination and let decorations turn a typical function room into an ice kingdom Frosty would be proud to call home. Set an icy colour scheme – silver, white and blue – and shower the room with some of the following:
- Paper snowflakes
- Snow drifts made of foam or white material
- Ice sculptures or glass/plastic look-alikes
- Spray-on snow
- Polysterene or blow-up snowmen and penguins
- Snow globes
- Winter clothing such as ice skates, scarves and mittens
- White, silver and pale blue baubles
- Lots of white fairy lights
12 Days of Christmas
Find clever ways to incorporate everything from a partridge in a pear tree to twelve drummers drumming.
This may include displaying topiary trees with candy pears, serving three (roast) french hens, hanging five golden wreaths to represent the rings and dressing up your tables to look like giant drums.
Have an Aussie Christmas
Break away from the white Christmas and celebrate the season the way they do downunder – on a scorching summer’s day.
Use an inflatable children’s pool filled with ice to hold your drinks, and decorate a gum tree rather than the traditional evergreen.
Put on a barbecue, meatpies or some freshly grilled fish, crack a few ginger ales and break out the ausse slang, mate.
Decorations could include Australian flora and fauna, shells and white sand and sandals.
